Viking Cheer Overview
Viking Cheerleading is a recreational league designed for anyone in grades k through 8th. The goal of this program is to provide a positive, healthy, safe and fun youth sport experience for all that participate from the Antioch, Lindenhurst, Lake Villa and Southeastern Wisconsin areas. All squad levels are determined by grade and experience.
On an annual basis, the Viking Cheer Coaches attend Cheerleading Coach’s Clinics. Each clinic discusses best practices for coaching cheerleading, reviews all aspects of cheer safety and demonstrates new techniques for stunts and routines that they can apply throughout the season.
At games, cheerleaders bring a great deal of energy to the sidelines and promote crowd participation. They help bring spirit to the games by cheering on the football players to victory.
Each year they participate in at least two competitions. Our 2013 season earned several first place awards for our cheerleaders. Five of our squads earned bids to the IRCA State Competition. Two squads went on to the Illinois State Recreational Cheerleading STATE Competition, and our Featherweight (5th grade) took 3rd place in State.
The cheerleading program has three representatives on the current Viking board. They are dedicated to making cheerleading a strong positive program for all involved. The people in these positions are instrumental to the success of Viking cheerleading.
